Jean van Laar

Jean van Laar holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Pretoria, undertaken at the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa).

He received an appointed as a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Research and Continued Engineering Development (CRCED), under the North-West University and ETA Operations (Pty) Ltd.

He then returned to Necsa as a project engineer where he focused on process safety and risk assessments for various engineering projects.

In 2021, he accepted the position of Academic Manager at ETA Operations (Pty) Ltd. He was also appointed lecturer extraordinaire at the North-West University and serves on the engineering faculty’s research ethics committee. Currently he also holds an appointment as a part-time adjunct senior lecturer at the Department of Industrial Engineering at the University of Stellenbosch.

Dr van Laar is an executive director for the Integrated Postgraduate and Industry Partnership (IPGIP) NPC in South Africa. He has also consulted for both local- and international engineering companies.
